Selling Without Selling: How to Convert Without Being Pushy #125

April 13, 20254 min read

Selling—one of the most dreaded activities in the world. Most people dislike selling or being sold to. One major reason for this aversion is the misconception that selling is a pushy, desperate process designed to woo potential customers in an inauthentic way.

The Truth About Selling

Full disclosure: I used to think I hated selling too—until I discovered the true definition of selling.

Before I reveal that, let me ask you this: Have you ever bought something and walked away feeling happy and excited about your purchase? Of course, you have! And each time you’ve purchased something willingly and happily, a sales process was involved.

In today’s podcast, I’ll show you how to sell without selling—while making your customers feel great about their decision.

The Biggest Mistake in Sales

Many business owners—whether in retail, insurance, or online businesses—make the same mistake: pitching too soon, too often. They bombard potential customers with non-stop offers before the buyer is even ready.

I’m on a few email lists where I get pitched a high-priced info product every couple of days. I stay subscribed just to observe what not to do.

Today, I’ll show you how to slow down your pitches and create opportunities where your audience wants to buy from you.

Ethical Selling vs. Hard Selling

I am not against hard selling. In fact, if you’ve created something amazing that can change lives, you should sell hard.

If you had the cure for a disease, would you soft sell it? No, you’d promote it relentlessly because selling more means helping more people.

However, I am against dishonest selling tactics—like false scarcity. There’s a way to sell aggressively without being misleading.

Between hard-sell campaigns, you should also implement passive income strategies that keep sales flowing in the long term. Here’s how:

Strategy #1: The “Free-Way” Method

Some of my most successful promotions have come from showing people how to achieve results for free before introducing a paid solution.

Example: My Free Webinars

I often run free webinars that teach:

  • How to grow a following

  • How to automate lead generation

  • How to start a business

For the first 30-40 minutes, I give away a complete, step-by-step process for free.

Why? Because:

  1. It helps those who aren’t ready to invest yet, giving them a risk-free way to take action.

  2. It naturally demonstrates the value of a premium tool or service that can achieve better results, faster.

When you show the “free-way” first, the contrast between manual effort and convenience makes the paid solution an easy choice—without any hard selling.

Example: My Lead Gen System Masterclass

I offer a free masterclass called Lead Gen System, where I teach how to attract leads on autopilot, year-round. People can sign up, attend the live session, and walk away with a valuable strategy—at no cost.

Of course, at the end, I introduce my 12-Month Accelerator Program for those who want hands-on guidance. But even if they don’t buy, they leave with real, actionable value.

The best part? If your product or service is genuinely useful, it will sell itself after your audience experiences the free value.

Strategy #2: A Resource Page That Sells for You

One of the most profitable pages on both The Chill Mom and MomBoss Academy is my Resources page.

A resource page is a dedicated section on your website that lists tools, links, and products your audience will find useful—preferably ones you’ve used and recommended.

Why You Need a Resource Page

  1. It provides massive value. Instead of making your audience search for tools and services, you consolidate everything in one place.

  2. It generates passive income. Many links can be affiliate links, bringing in commissions while still serving your audience.

  3. It builds trust. When people see you openly sharing helpful tools (even non-affiliate ones), they trust your recommendations more.

How to Set Up Your Resource Page

  1. Create a new page on your website titled Resources, Tools, or Recommended Products.

  2. List tools, software, and services that you use and recommend.

  3. Include affiliate links where applicable, but also add valuable non-affiliate resources.

  4. Categorise recommendations based on your audience’s needs (e.g., beginner vs. advanced tools).

  5. Drive traffic to it by mentioning it in blog posts, podcast episodes, social media, and email newsletters.

Bonus: Create a “Best Of” Page

Another high-value strategy is to curate a “Best Of” page where you organise your top blog posts, podcasts, and training sessions in one place.

For example, I maintain a RESOURCES page where I list all my free opt-ins and discounts on my favourite tools. Or a "Top Blog Posts" on my blog page. This makes it easy for my audience to find relevant help, no matter where they are in their business journey.

Final Thoughts: Selling Without Selling

If you approach sales strategically, your audience will naturally move toward buying—without feeling pressured.

By implementing these passive strategies, you’ll:

  • Build trust with your audience

  • Create long-term income without aggressive selling

  • Make it easier for people to buy from you

That said, I do believe in the occasional hard-sell—when it’s done ethically and honestly. Ideally, you should have products lined up throughout your website, while also running well-timed launches for your flagship offers.
