Flopped Launch? Here’s What You Can Learn and Do Differently #119
Every successful entrepreneur knows that not every launch will be a smashing success. In fact, some launches will fall flat — and that’s perfectly okay. What sets thriving entrepreneurs apart is their ability to learn from those experiences, adapt, and come back stronger.
In this post, I’ll share a personal story of a launch that completely flopped, the lessons I learned from it, and how I transformed that failure into a thriving evergreen course.
Turning Failed Launches into Evergreen Success: Lessons for Entrepreneurs
Step 1: See Setbacks as Learning Opportunities
When a launch doesn't meet your expectations, it’s easy to assume something is wrong with your business. However, that’s rarely the case. The better approach is to ask yourself powerful questions:
How can I serve my audience more effectively next time?
What creative approaches can I try to make my next launch exciting?
What lessons did this experience teach me that I can apply moving forward?
By shifting your focus to problem-solving and innovation, you open yourself up to better opportunities.
Step 2: The Story of My $30,000 Launch (and a Total Flop)
I once launched a course called Million Dollar Webinar, designed to help my students promote their businesses through webinars.
The prelaunch was decent, earning around $30,000. Encouraged by the results, I invested months into creating new materials and supporting my students.
Then came the actual launch — a complete disaster. Not a single sale. I tried again and it became clear that my audience didn’t see webinars as a viable solution.
Step 3: Find the Right Audience for Your Offer
The course sat on the shelf for months until I launched AMPLY, a tool for entrepreneurs who already host events. Suddenly, I realized I had a perfect match.
I took parts of the original course, rebranded it as Launch It Perfect, and made it available as an evergreen resource. The best part? This audience didn’t need to be convinced to run events — they were already doing it.
The result? A successful, evergreen course that complements my subscription business.
Lesson: Sometimes, it’s not about changing the product — it’s about finding the right audience.
Step 4: Stay Present and Stop Chasing Past Successes
A common trap for entrepreneurs is comparing current launches to past successes. This mindset shift is crucial:
Focus on the present opportunity.
Look for real-time lessons and feedback.
Avoid dwelling on past outcomes, whether good or bad.
Being fully present allows you to innovate and respond creatively to your audience's needs.
Final Takeaway: Failure Fuels Innovation
Every setback is an opportunity to grow and innovate. Failed launches teach us lessons that success often doesn’t.
By staying curious, creative, and forward-focused, you’ll be better positioned to build products and services that truly resonate with your audience.
What’s Next?
If you’ve had a flopped launch, don’t give up. Keep moving forward, ask better questions, and adapt based on what you’ve learned.
